IDEIAS-SERG

IDEIAS-SERG is a multidisciplinary research and development laboratory at the Department of Informatics at PUC-Rio. The laboratory was established in 2019 through a merger of two predecessor groups: IDEIAS (founded in 2010) and SERG (founded in 1996). It is led by Profs. Simone D.J. Barbosa and Clarisse Sieckenius de Souza.

The Semiotic Engineering Research Group (SERG) has produced significant academic output, including 32 Master's and 29 D.Sc.'s graduates. Publications encompass 5 international books and 1 national book. The group received five international awards and distinctions plus two national recognitions.

IDEIAS (in Portuguese: Investigações sobre o Design de Interação e Avaliação de Sistemas) has graduated 35 Master's and 11 D.Sc.'s students. Its founder, Simone D.J. Barbosa, received the IFIP TC13 Pioneer award in 2019 and the Carreira de Destaque em IHC award in 2020.

The lab partners with local, national, and international research groups. It also collaborates with industry projects, providing consulting and training in interaction design, user experience, information visualization, and visual analytics.
